Happy Labor Day Weekend Nostalgies!

In this week’s Growing Up Movies videosode, I share a personal story about childlike aspirations. It’s the tale of a classic original Atari Star Wars arcade game and how I ambitiously saved the money and navigated the logistics as a 12-year-old in the late 1980s to acquire this machine which I still treasure to this day. I hope this story inspires some of you because we all had sky high ambitions when we were young, before the “real world” shrouded our dreams. The good news is that such negative and hopeless energy which can be forced upon us as adults can also be deflected and reversed. Connecting with our old childlike creative ambitions is a great way to get our heads above the constrictions and obstacles that society burdens us with. We can achieve whatever we want in this life, if we set our minds to it. I invite you to take a trip down memory lane with an amusing tale of relentless ambition from a late 80s pre-teen and see if it inspires you to go out and finish that unfinished project, or save the money for that special item you have been wanting. We can do it by remembering how we did it when we were young. If you like this tale, please subscribe to the YouTube channel, comment, and share because I can’t spread this nostalgic goodness around the internet without you!

Whhhhaaaaat is up Nostalgia Nuts!?? Our wedding hiatus has passed and Growing Up Movies is BACK this week, exploring 80s toys that some of us LOVED at one point, but may have forgotten about. In this Videosode, I delve into Kenner's mid to late 80s M.A.S.K. phenomenon. I LOVED these toys when I was a kid and frankly, they're still pretty cool. Maybe not the safest things for kids to play with, but hey - it was a different era! If you like this fun stuff, please subscribe to our YouTube channel, comment, and share with others. I make these videosodes to help adults navigate the difficulties of grown-up life by revisiting the things we loved to do and create when we were kids. Please help me share the good word! Lots more to come!

Two weekends ago, I went on my 7th venture to San Diego Comic Con. This year, I took to the streets to talk about the creative phenomenon of Cosplay and how well Comic Con represents the blend of pop culture nostalgia and childlike creativity. Making creative costumes is a great outlet for us as adults. So many of us do this for Halloween and other popular events like Comic Con.

Bianca and I are getting married next weekend, so I’m going to take a little time to enjoy the moment and also catch up on editing the next wave of Growing Up Movies videosodes. GUM will return with new content on August 26th. Until then, please enjoy the nostalgic fun-ness that is already up on our YouTube channel, and we’ll be back a couple of weekend after the wedding!

I make these videos to help remind us how to cope with the difficulties of adult life by reconnecting to childlike nostalgia and creativity. If you like what I am doing, please comment and share (especially on YouTube) because that is how the good word spreads.
